The Energy Minister says the North-South Interconnector will bring "huge benefits" and could lead to the creation of jobs.
Minister Eamon Ryan says if engagement with the public can be done right the contentious project could benefit the region.
There continues to be strong opposition in Cavan, Monaghan, Meath and north of the border, with some warning construction will not be allowed begin unless the interconnector is placed underground.
However, Eirgrid says the project is needed to ensure the reliability of the country's electricity supply.
