The new review into the North-South Interconnector will be a test of whether or not the Government is listening to the concerns of local communities, according to a local TD.
The North East Pylon Pressure Campaign today told Shannonside Northern Sound said there needs to be "real input" into it from local communities.
Sinn Féin TD Matt Carthy called on the Government to direct Eirgrid to stop the procurement aspect of the project while the review is carried out.
He says the Government's commitment to local communities will be tested, particularly as the Minister responsible for the project has refused to meet with campaign groups:
Meanwhile, the North-East Pylon Pressure Campaign says the review can't be a "box-ticking exercise".
Padraig O'Reilly has called for the review to have a "genuine and objective look" at undergrounding the interconnector.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Mr O'Reilly said "public acceptance" of the review's outcome is dependent on the public having a "real input into the terms of reference":
