Insulation is the key to making energy savings in rural dwellings, especially stand-alone bungalows.
That's according to Julie Farrelly from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland.
The SEAI has launched its "Home Energy Challenge" and is encouraging everyone to take real climate action and use less fossil fuels.
Julie says these changes will also save people money this winter.
She adds that rural property owners should get a Building Energy Rating assessment as this will save them money in the long term, and that insulating homes keeps the heat in.
