A pedigree sheep breeder in Monaghan lost five sheep to a dog attack. Two of the ewes were carrying triplets at the time. A ewe and three rams were scared over a bank down 10 to 15 feet into a drain. The ewe in the drain, which was found on her back, is pregnant with twin lambs. One of the rams is being treated by a vet for "potential pneumonia".
The night time attack happened on Eamonn and Niamh Monahan's pedigree texel farm near Inniskeen. The father and daughter told the Joe Finnegan Show of their "devastation" about their animals and the state they found them in on Sunday morning.
Clearly still distressed, Eamonn said the ewes had just been moved in to what he called a "nursery field" so that he and his family could give the pregnant sheep the "extra TLC" they would need before lambing season starts in about two weeks' time (listen below):
His daughter, Niamh, said the scene they came upon was like a "horror film".
