The INMO has welcomed Health Minister’s decision to visit midwives in Cavan on Friday.
The meeting with Simon Harris comes on the back of news last week that the Midwife-led Unit in the hospital was to be merged with the doctor led unit or downgraded in some way, which has led to criticism and concern from many including the INMO.
A petition opposing the move has been signed by over 10, 500 people to date and the INMO has said they how want to see a commitment from the government to implement the National Maternity Strategy and provide the allocated funding.
David Miskell the union’s Industrial Relations Officer for the region says they are demanding clarity on the issue from the RCSI Group and they want to establish a clear pathway to midwifery led care in Cavan.
Speaking to Northern Sound News, he said that the lack of a review or external input was unacceptable and welcomed the opportunity for the midwives to speak to the Minister on Friday.
