An air ambulance carrying the soldier injured in an attack on UN forces in Lebanon last week is due to arrive in Ireland later today. Trooper Shane Kearney from Cork suffered serious head injuries when the convoy he was travelling in came under attack.
Private Sean Rooney who was from Dundalk in Co Louth was killed in the incident. He will be laid to rest with full military honours tomorrow.
The matter is now the subject of three separate investigations. Meanwhile, upon arrival at Casement Aerodrome in Baldonnell this afternoon, Trooper Kearney will be transferred by ambulance to Beaumont hospital where he will receive medical care.
The Defence Forces says he remains in a stable condition.
