Initial project approval has been granted for the significant expansion of a Co Cavan secondary school.
Education Minister, Norma Foley, today granted approval for the provision of additional permanent accommodation at Breifne College in Cavan Town.
The works will include four general classrooms, seven SET rooms, and a number of specialised rooms, including three science labs, two engineering rooms, and an art room.
The announcement has been welcomed by local TDs Brendan Smith and Niamh Smyth.
Brendan Smith says the project will allow the school to comfortably accommodate increased enrolments.
While he says there will be a "considerable period of time before the project is finalised", he added that work will begin right away to advance the scheme to the design stage:
