A Cavan journalist says Budget 2025 must prioritise local infrastructure projects such as housing and roads.
It was revealed this week that a security hut at Government buildings cost in the region of €1.4 million. The revelation has caused backlash following on from the infamous €336,000 bike shelter and a €190,000 personal trainer for Dáil members. Sean McMahon is a well-known journalist based in Cavan.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, he says that Government must think about their spending, and money should be invested in projects such as the N3.
"They didn't come up like mushrooms overnight, the bike shed or the hut. There're deputies and the Taoiseach going in and out to the Dáil and the Department of Agriculture every day. Do they never think "What are those and how much are they costing". It's like the three blind mice. Don't ask any questions, see nothing, hear nothing, it wasn't our fault. This is the kind of thing they need to get a handle on. Infrastructure is important. One thing I'd like to see in the Budget is the Virgina N3 bypass because Virginia on a Friday evening at 4pm is impossible to get through".
