Gardaí in Co Monaghan are appealing for information following a spate of thefts across the region. According to local Gardaí, many of the incidents took place in sheds and outbuildings, with members of the public asked to "be vigilant" when it comes to safeguarding their property.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Garda Tracey Donohoe revealed that Gardaí in Castleblayney are investigating a burglary in the area of Corragarry. The incident took place during the night of Wednesday the 7th of June were a number of items were stolen from a shed.
Also in the Castleblayney area, Gardaí are investigating the theft of tools from a van during the afternoon of Saturday the 10th of June between 3.30pm and 5pm.
The van was parked in the area of Drumillard Little and Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious or may have dash cam footage to please contact them.
In Clontibret, Gardaí are investigating a burglary which took place at 11am on Friday the 9th of June. Gardaí are appealing for information after a home was foreseeable entered and a number of items were stolen, meanwhile, a quantity of tools were also stolen from the Smithborough area between Tuesday the 13th of June and Thursday the 15 of June.
Gardaí are also investigating a burglary which took place in the townland of Donaghamoyne, Carrickmacross, were a number of items were stolen from a shed at around 3pm on Saturday the 24th of June.
As a result of these recent incidents, Garda Tracey Donohoe has offered her advice on what people can do to protect their property. "Sheds and outbuildings can often be targeted by criminals and all too often they can contain valuable tools and machinery which should be secure at all times," explained Garda Donohoe. "It's always worthwhile to record the serial numbers of your property and take photographs of the items. If you are at all suspicious of a stranger calling to your home or farm, please report the matter to your local Garda Station without delay."
