There has been an increase in the usage of new library buildings in Co Monaghan.

Monaghan County Libraries have recorded a "significant increase" in community engagement at the two new library buildings in the county. Since opening in September 2023, Castleblayney library recorded a massive 280% increase in visitor numbers. Elsewhere, the Monaghan town library recorded a 195% increase in visitor numbers in its first five months at the Peace Campus.

The state-of-the-art buildings have become vibrant hubs for learning, creativity, and social interaction. Speaking to Northern Sound, County Librarian, Deirdriú McQuaid said the service is delighted to see such a positive response from the community. She added that the goal has always been to create welcoming spaces that cater to the diverse needs of local communities, and that the increased usage is a testament to their success.

"Investing in our libraries is an investment in our community’s future,” said Robert Burns, Chief Executive of Monaghan County Council. "The increased level of usage highlights the important role libraries play in meeting the needs of our community."
