Monaghan continues to shine according to recent figures published by the IBAL summer litter survey. The latest nationwide survey by 'Irish Business Against Litter' shows Monaghan is among the country's cleanest towns at 6th position in the ranking of 40 towns and cities. Meanwhile Cavan was just shy of featuring within the top ten, slipping from 7th position last year to 12th overall.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Conor Horgan of IBAL said that Monaghan has been a "consistent" performer in recent years. He also praised the overall performance of Co Cavan this year, despite finishing outside of the top ten.
Meanwhile, An Taisce, who carry out the surveys for IBAL said; "Monaghan retains its consistency of recent years, with seven out of the ten sites surveyed getting the top litter grade and, most notably, no heavily littered sites. The Diamond Centre had frequently been a heavily littered one over many previous IBAL surveys – not so, this time around it was Grade A status. Monaghan Bus Station, Market House Museum and a couple of the approach roads were also very much deserving of the top litter grade.
"Cavan just loses out on its top ten spot from last year, but still a very performance, with seven out of the ten sites surveyed getting the top litter grade and just one heavily littered site. Top-ranking sites included all the approach roads, the residential area of Farnham Court and the Bring Centre – the latter has seen big improvements over the last little while. The Main Street was the only seriously littered site."
