Minister Heather Humphreys says she is going to take a break for now and enjoy life following her retirement from politics.
The local Fine Gael outgoing TD and Minister says she has enjoyed her time on the canvas trail meeting people across the region which has afforded her the opportunity to thank them for their support throughout the years. Speaking to Northern Sound earlier today Minister Humphreys said she is going to enjoy more time at home with her family and on the farm with her husband Eric.
The former Fine Gael deputy leader said she has been asked already to speak at events in the region and the popular Monaghan woman said she will look forward to participating in such events. During an in dept interview on the Wider View today she said that if she was 10 years younger she would be contesting the election this Friday and continue to represent the people of the Northern Sound region.
The Aughabog woman has recalled a call she received from Leo Varadkar when she first got elected back in 2011.
Meanwhile Minister Humphreys said she plans to be there for her family and friends after 13 years of being a TD in Cavan and Monaghan.
