The IFA Poultry Chair has welcomed the Department of Agriculture financial support scheme for the 14 Monaghan flock owners affected by the H6N1 bird flu.
The scheme will see a payment of €20,000 being made available to the affected farms.
Carrickmacross farmer and Poultry Chair Andy Boylan said it won’t cover the losses of the 14 flocks, but that it will be of great benefit to the farmers who have lost so much.
He told Shannonside Northern Sound that no further Department funding is available, and that the onus is on the farmer to maintain highest standards of bio-security possible on their poultry farms:
