Frank Brady, says every IFA member and their family is welcome to the Monaghan AGM, which, he says has also become a social event.

Monaghan IFA holds its AGM tonight in the Glencarn Hotel, Castleblayney. IFA Regional Chairman for Ulster North Leinster, Frank Brady, says every IFA member and their family is welcome to the meeting, which, he says has become more of a social event.

Tom Treanor will be appointed the new local chairman and the guest speaker is Monaghan weatherman Gerry Murphy who will discuss climate change on farming and invite questions from attendees. Frank Brady will also take the floor when he will discuss the pertinent issues affecting farming and rural families today. Mr Brady told Northern Sound that farming can be a lonely job, and farmers prone to feelings of isolation and depression so, such IFA meetings can be a good way for farmers to meet up, have questions answered and talk to each other in a social setting.

"We'll finish the meeting with people saying what they have to say and, if anybody wants to ask questions they can," frank Brady told Northern Sound, "The one thing about these meetings is it's an outlet for people. We used to have the pub years ago but unfortunately, that seems to be gone now with drink-driving and all that so, we have this situation now that people can get out, they can talk to other people and meet other people who might have the same problems that they have. Farming is a lonely environment at some stages."
