Record levels of investment experienced in Ireland since the signing of The Belfast Agreement "would not have occurred" without peace, according to IBEC. The business group is before an Oireachtas committee today.
The Government is planning a series of events to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, in April. IBEC's director of lobbying and influence, Fergal O'Brien, says the agreement brought campaigns of violence to an end.
"The Agreement was a crucial factor really in embedding peace and bringing the political campaigns of violence to an end. And those campaigns of violence obviously had awareness right across the world and investors globally would have been concerned about those," he added.
