Outgoing Cavan-Monaghan TD and Minister Heather Humphreys has indicated Simon Harris will want to form a government with "like-minded" politicians.
Minister Humphreys was at the Cavan-Monaghan count centre late last night and was speaking to Joe Finnegan at the stage before David Maxwell was elected as the first TD for the area.
Cllr Maxwell is likely to be the only Fine Gael TD in Cavan - Monaghan and will be joined in Dáil Éireann by two Sinn Féin and two Fianna Fáil colleagues.
Deputy Humphreys said the programme for government is the document TDs "live or die by" so compiling it and working to it is easier when it's with like-minded partners in government.
Heather Humphreys said she worked on the last programme for Government on behalf of Fine Gael during Covid and says the large document took them three months to study and pass.
