Fianna Fail TD for Cavan/Monaghan and Chair of the Oireachtas Media Committee, Niamh Smyth, says "a huge body of work" has yet to be done to allow RTÉ to "re-invent itself."
The committee is currently in a private meeting to examine the findings of a second Grant Thornton review into governance and financial problems at the broadcaster. Further reports have yet to be published - including one on the Toy Show: The Musical - and some top RTÉ executives have not appeared before TDs and senators - including former Director General, Dee Forbes.
Deputy Niamh Smyth says they'll decide today how to proceed - but does expect they'll hold more public sessions with senior management. "The outcome of that report has been around the lack of a working relationship, really, between the board and the leadership team that was there at that time," explained Deputy Smyth.
"We know that when that was absent there was clear lack of oversight and governance was poor at that point. I have no doubt my colleagues will be anxious to see how we can guarantee the public, in any future public hearings that we do have, how that has changed and what the sweeping changes have been within the board."
