As the traditional January 6th date for taking down Christmas decorations approaches, Monaghan and Cavan County Councils have issued advice around the disposal of real Christmas trees.
Residents are asked not to - under any circumstances - to burn their real tree but bring it to a number of civic amenity sites in the Northern Sound region. Natural trees can be recycled for free in recycling centres during the month of January, while there is a charge of €3 to €5 for recycling artificial ones in County Monaghan depending on their size.
If bringing a natural Christmas tree to any of the three Civic Amenity Centres in Cavan, there will be no entry charge. For the recycling of other household waste items, the €4 entry charge will apply at these centres. All electrical and electronic items are accepted free of charge.
The recycling centres in Cavan are based at Corranure, Bailieborough and Ballyconnell. The Monaghan sites are at Scotch Corner in Annyalla and Convent Lands in Carrickmacross.
