Housing stock rates in Cavan and Monaghan are 'dire'. That's according to James Spring of REA Donohoe Spring who says there are currently under 250 units for sale in Cavan and just under 70 in Monaghan.
He says new houses are urgently needed in both counties but there is nothing available in Co Monaghan and just 14 homes in the pipeline in Cavan. Mr Spring also pointed out that people who are currently looking at houses want to buy them.
He added that because demand is high, the market is stabilising. Selfishly from a vendor's point of view the market is stable with positive increases simply because of the lack of supply.
"People still want to buy houses - first time buyers, people downsizing, relocating, etc. So demand is there; we just need the units to sell," he added.
