A well known fundraising campaigner and local General Election candidate says housing is at the worst ever.
Jimmy Stavros Mee says there is people sleeping rough right across the Northern Sound region.
The Independent candidate says he never thought he would see the day that people in towns like Cavan, Monaghan and Virginia would be sleeping in tents. The charity activist works with a lot of homeless people says he will fight for all the people who have no home and will have bleak a Christmas.
Having come to Monaghan in 1981 as a 17-year-old army recruit, Mr Mee served for many years at Monaghan’s former army barracks on the Armagh Road, and later became familiar in his capacity as a fundraiser for various causes in the locality.
Over the last 25 years he has campaigned to raise funds for Children’s University Hospital in Temple Street. He has also been involved in various initiatives to raise money for deserving organisations and initiatives. He said in 2024 its simply not good enough that Irish people are left in these situations and left to sleep on the streets
