Monaghan Minor Injury Unit hours are to be extended from next month and is expected to operate seven days a week from next year. That's according to Senator Robbie Gallagher who told Northern Sound that Monaghan Hospital is currently recruiting healthcare staff to accommodate the move.
He says the extension will improve management and treatment of patients presenting with minor injury requirements from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday initially with a view to opening hours of 8am to 8pm on Saturday and Sundays.
Senator Gallagher says the county is "very fortunate" to have excellent staff at both Monaghan Hospital and at the specialised unit. He added that he will be continuing with his campaign to raise the profile of the local health facilities.
"With the implementation and expansion of the Monaghan Injuries Unit, there will be an enhancement of senior clinical leaders and decision makers on the front line, and there will be increased efficiency in directing patients to the most appropriate care pathway for their specific needs. This will positively impact the patient service, ensure consistent flow of patients to new alternative care pathways and boost staff morale," he added.
