It is hoped improvement and upgrading works planned for the R181 road from Crossduff to the Cavan border will bring economic growth to the area.
At a recent meeting of the Ballybay Clones MD councillors were told that a budget of 4.8 million euro had been assigned for realignment, surfacing works, drainage upgrades, and improved access particularly to Lough Egish food park.
The current plan would see the design and land purchases completed by December and work on phase one beginning in 2021.
Fine Gael Councillor for the area Sean Gilliland stated that the scheme is important for all employed in the food park and indigenous companies.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound he said outside the N2 the R181 is economically the most important road in the county:
