It's hoped the reopening of Bawnboy Garda Station will strengthen public support in community policing.
The west Cavan garda station was one of six stations to close in 2013 as part of a cost-cutting measure, and later marked for reopening.
No date has been given for its reopening, however in September, Shannonside Northern Sound News reported that the contract for works was soon ready to be awarded.
At the most recent Joint Policing Committee meeting, Fianna Fail TD Brendan Smith asked when it will be back in service, with an answer to be prepared for the next meeting.
He says it's a matter of urgency that the station is reopened, but that the current community policing model has been successful in the meantime.
