It's hoped increased roads funding for Cavan and Monaghan will help clear a backlog of repairs.
An additional €1.5 million has been announced for the two counties under the Local Improvement Scheme.
The LIS focuses on upgrading rural laneways and non-public roads that are in poor condition.
In a second round of funding announced today, Cavan will benefit from €902,000 with €581,000 going to Monaghan.
Councillor Aidan Campbell said that with new applications halted in recent years, the funding is welcomed.
TP O'Reilly said local councillors lobbied Minister Heather Humphreys for this funding, and they intend to see further increases in the coming years.
Councillor John Paul Feeley also welcomed the announcement but described the progress on repairs as "inadequate" and said the long lists were created "as a result of a failure of Fine Gael" to make provisions for the scheme from 2012 to 2021.
