A local Green Party representative says there is finally a reason to be hopeful about the possibility of railway infrastructure in Co Cavan.
Tate Donnelly says he was "delighted" to see the disused Navan-Kingscourt railway line mentioned in the government's €165 billion National Development plan.
Cavan, Monaghan, and Donegal lack any railway infrastructure, and Tate has called for political representatives in the region "to stand up and say we want to see rail back in the county".
The National Development Plan includes a "Strategic Rail Review", which will include reflections on the "potential of disused lines", such as the Navan-Kingscourt rail line.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Green Party rep says the inclusion of the local rail line is "the first sign of hope in a long time":
