It is hoped that the public realm scheme for Inniskeen will enhance the area for both residents and tourists.
The project is being done under the Town and Village renewal Scheme and will see better infrastructure, including safer walkways for pedestrians and improved accessibility.
Councillor Noel Keelan says this is something he has emphasised the need for over a number of years as the current layout is unsuitable for wheelchair or walking aid users, as well as dangerous for anyone crossing the river.
He is hopeful that this will attraction more to the area, especially following the refurbishment to the Patrick Kavanagh Centre, and a number of newly opened cafes and businesses.
