Local homeowners in Monaghan are being advised to be on their guard against fraudsters who have been targeting households across the county. The latest scam in the region is people calling homeowners purporting to be broadband installers. It’s understood a number of property owners have come forward to report what appears to be the latest scam to hit the Farney County in recent times. In many of those cases, homeowners have reported receiving unsolicited phone calls from personnel falsely claiming to be working for National Broadband Ireland.

These scammers are contacting people, pretending to work with NBI, and asking them to install software on their computer or phone. This software is designed to access your device without permission and could be used for harmful purposes.
You are being reminded that the NBI will never ask you to install any software on your device to manage your fibre broadband or for any other reason. If you receive an unexpected call from someone claiming to be from NBI, do not share any personal information with them and If they ask you to install software, end the call immediately and do not follow their instructions. Do not engage with the caller and report the incident to your broadband service provider.
