An annual HIQA report into child services has found that “excellent practice” was provided within statutory foster care services in the Cavan-Monaghan service area.
The report also concluded that “excellent practice” was found in the Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan service area.
The 2019 HIQA report carried out inspections of 51 child services throughout the country.
By the end of 2019, inspections of statutory foster services had been completed in 11 service areas.
While “significant concern” was raised about two areas that had a small number of unallocated cases, the report found that “excellent service” was provided within both the Cavan-Monaghan and the Sligo-Leitrim-West Cavan Service areas.
In these service areas, all eligible children were allocated an aftercare worker regardless of their circumstances.
The report also found that some children who didn’t meet the eligibility criteria were still allocated an after care worker and provided with aftercare service, something the report says demonstrates a commitment to supporting young people in their transition to adulthood.
