High-speed broadband is on the way to almost 2,900 Cavan homes, farms and businesses near Bailieborough.
This new rollout will bring to 9,800 homes, businesses and farms in Cavan that can avail of a high-speed connectivity. The properties that will have access from this rollout includes the rural communities of Bailieborough, Virginia and Laragh. In Cavan, there are approximately 17,000 premises in the Intervention Area (IA), which includes homes, farms, commercial businesses and schools. Under the National Broadband Plan, Co Cavan will see an investment of €65M in the new high speed fibre network.
This will enable e-learning, remote monitoring of livestock or equipment, e-health initiatives, better energy efficiency in the home, and facilitate increased levels of remote working. Having successfully completed the survey and design phase of the project, 2,851 Cavan premises in the Bailieborough deployment areas are now under construction to get access to high-speed fibre broadband.
These premises will be connected to the NBI™ network in 2026.
