High praise by HIQA for Monaghan disability centre

On arrival, inspectors described the centre as nicely decorated, spacious, homely and welcoming.

Residents of one Monaghan disability centre say they feel happy, comfortable, and safe in their home.

An inspection was carried out by HIQA at Tonniscoffey House in April of this year. This is a service providing 24 hour care and support to five residents with disabilities.

It comprises of one large detached houses in a tranquil rural setting but located within close proximity to a large town in Co. Monaghan. A service vehicle is provided to the centre to accommodate residents' access to community facilities and day, and each resident has their own bedroom all of which are ensuite.

On arrival, inspectors described the centre as nicely decorated, spacious, homely and welcoming. The inspectors said from speaking with residents it was evident that they were very comfortable and happy in their home Residents said they could talk to any of the staff if they were not happy, and that staff were very approachable. The person in charge and staff members were observed to be respectful, kind, and warm when engaging with residents, and there was a very positive atmosphere in the centre

Overall the inspector found residents were enjoying an engaging and varied life, which supported and promoted their needs and rights. The centre was found to be compliant or substantially compliant in all areas of inspection.
