Covid-19 has given many people the opportunity to look into the heritage of their local areas, something which has been described as "encouraging".

Hundreds of events are taking place across the country over the next week to mark Heritage Week.

A number of this year's events are being held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with others being held with social distancing and other measures in place.

This year's theme is "Heritage and Education: Learning from our Heritage" and groups and organisations across the country have planned different ways of showcasing historical aspects of their areas.

Heritage Officer with Cavan County Council Anne Marie Curley says while dealing with Covid-19 has been a challenge, it has brought opportunities for groups too:
