Calls have been made to resolve the long-standing issues faced by Emyvale residents when it comes to raw sewage. The matter was highlighted at yesterday's sitting of Monaghan County Council by Sinn Fein newcomer Bronagh McAree. According to Cllr McAree, young families living in the Oisinvale and OisinBrian areas have been forced to move out due to health and safety concerns.
In a bid to rectify the issue, Cllr McAree has called on Monaghan County Council write to the Connections and Developer Services at Uisce Éireann, and also to the Water Finance Section's Developer Provided Infrastructure (DPI) Resolution Unit within the Department Of Housing and Local Government, seeking to immediately resolve the long-standing issue of rural residential area waste water treatment plants including but not exclusive to Oisinvale and OisinBrian for the purpose of enabling the Taking-in-Charge by Monaghan County Council. Her motion was passed with unanimous support and seconded by her party colleague Sean Conlon.
Speaking to Northern Sound Cllr McAree says that the people of these areas who have been fighting for better living conditions for the last 14 years "deserve better." She continued; "A young mother with a two-year and a six moth year old who actually had to leave and move her children out of the house and stay with her own mother. There's raw sewage in back gardens, kids have to be kept inside as it's not safe for them to go outside. There was another case of a young man who had surgery recently and it's impacting his respiratory system and the air in the house is not safe for him. It's a health and environmental hazard. There are an awful lot of young families in this estate and it really is becoming just so unsafe and it's a really dangerous situation at this stage."
