A Status Yellow freezing fog and ice warning is in place for the entire country until noon today. Met Éireann is warning motorists of potentially hazardous driving conditions.
The warnings are on top of a general winter weather advisory currently in place until Wednesday next week. Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather says conditions are poor out there this morning.
"Freezing fog is setting in and some showers along the west coast - primarily along the west and north west coast - with a risk of some snow showers in the north west. Temperatures are well below normal; we would normally see day time temperatures of up to eight or nine degrees, so we are well below normal," he added.
Meanwhile, travel disruption looks set to continue today after 143 flights due to depart or land in Dublin Airport yesterday were cancelled. A spokesperson for the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) says some airlines experienced delays to their flight schedules due to difficulties de-icing their aircraft, which is the responsibility of the airline.
