The Cavan Rugby Club Choir is on the lookout for new members after the Covid-19 pandemic reduced attendance by as much as 60%. The all-men choir was established 10 years ago by Tom Farrell and went from strength to strength before the pandemic swept in, in 2020.
Micheal Flynn is a member of the choir since its inception in 2013 and he says joining is a great way to meet people and make new friends Speaking to Northern Sound, he said the choir performs at charity fundraisers and visits nursing homes, and that members have attended all the major rugby grounds in Ireland, and marched in the St Patrick's Day Parade in New York.
Michael added that the Cavan Rugby Club Choir is all about camaraderie and friendship. "One of the guys had somebody in a nursing home for example and he came up with the idea of going and singing in the nursing homes," he continued. "A bunch of the guys from the choir went off and sang in the nursing homes and our name got around and people would ask us what we were all about.
"It's great for them and its great for the fellas singing in the choir because a lot of us are retired and it's something for us to do. Rather than having nothing to do, we have practice to go to every Thursday night and a variety of different concerts and entertainment."
