A public consultation took place this week in Co Cavan on the Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway Greenway.
There has been huge interest from locals in the consultation process.
Cllr John Paul Feely says the project, which will see the installation of the new Greenway from Sligo to Enniskillen, is ambitious, but is one that can be achieved through cross-border co-operation.
He says it will take two years to bring the initial stage of the Greenway to fruition.
Cllr Feely added that while the old railway will act as a starting point, a number of other routes will be used to maximize the local Greenway's potential.
