The Green Schools programme aims to encourage, involve, and educate school going children in the important part they can play in making our world a little greener. The Cavan schools that received their green flag this year are;

  • Litter and Waste: St. Mogue's NS Bawnboy and St Bricin's College Belturbet
  • Water: Gaelscoil Bhreifne, Corlea NS, and Coláiste Dun an Ri

Cavan County Council offered a special word of congratulations to Corlea NS which not only received its Green Flag for the water theme but was also named regional winner for Water School of the Year in the north west. The local school also claimed the national award for Green School All-Ireland Primary Water School of the year 2024. According to the local authority, the number of schools in Co Cavan actively participating in the programme is low. As a result it is now encouraging more schools to get involved.
