The green light has been given for a 2.7 million euro Fire Station project for Ballybay in Co Monaghan.
The news was confirmed yesterday by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O'Brien.
As a result of the decision, approval to proceed to tender for the construction of a new Fire Station in Ballybay was secured.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Chief Fire Officer, Dermot Brannigan said they hope to go to tender in the new year.
Despite past constraints and issues, Mr Brannigan added that new developments for the Ballybay station will enable them to provide state of the art training facilities for current and future fire staff.
"It will allow us to have the training facilities that will ensure that our fire fighters can maintain the high standards that they have at the moment and be able to go beyond that", he said.
