Cavan communities which have "welcomed and hosted significant numbers of arrivals from Ukraine and other countries" can now avail of a grant worth just over €1.155m to the county.
Cavan County Council has identified 12 communities, which have welcomed "high levels of new arrivals" including Cavan Town, Virginia, Blacklion, Belturbet, Kingscourt, Killinkere, Ballinagh, Gowna, Mullagh, Crosskeys, Shercock, Ballyhaise, Cootehill, Kilnaleck and Mullahoran.
Last month, Minister for Rural Affairs and local TD, Heather Humphreys announced the national €50m Community Recognition Fund, which "supports the development of community infrastructure and facilities for entire communities.
Now, Cavan County Council is seeking expressions of interest for the minimum grant amount of €50,000 for project proposals from community groups in those areas.
The money can be spent on play areas, walkways and parks; local sports or afterschool facilities and for the purchase of equipment for local clubs, festivals and groups.
Proposed project details within the identified areas should be submitted by Friday, 26th April, further details are available on the Cavan County Council website.
