The interim deputy secretary general of the GRA, James Morrisroe, says the action being taken is because of the strong feeling of delegates over working conditions and out of date work practices in An Garda Síochána.
The former GRA representative for the Cavan Monaghan Garda Division told this morning's Joe Finnegan Show that the roster issue has "come to a head" for members. Mr Morrisroe went on to say that Commissioner Drew Harris' lack of co-operation on the matter has proved unhelpful to all concerned.
He added that the 6th of November is the date on which the pre-Covid roster will take effect; members don't want that, and they are going to fight for the 4 off 4 on roster to stay. "The GRA has not directed nor ever would direct our members to withdraw their labour," Mr Morrisroe continued. "It's an individual decision that each delegate will consider and make their own individual on that.
"The delegates have decided - the GRA is the governing body; conference is the governing body; and we take everything that the members on the ground say to us. We have had our conference and the delegates will make their own individual decision, and it's up to everyone to make their own individual decision on this."
