The Garda representative association has commended the actions of a garda who was attacked in Cavan on Tuesday. The garda suffered a number of injuries after he tried to give medical attention to a man in the Cootehill area at around midday on Tuesday afternoon.
It's understood the garda was treated at the scene and remained on duty. A man aged in his 50's was detained under the Mental Health Act and was subsequently released without charge. A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The GRA say that there thoughts are with their colleague in Cavan who suffered injuries from the attack while coming to the aid of an injured man in his 50s and wished the local Garda a speedy recovery.
