A Monaghan GP believes allowing pharmacists to issue prescriptions will leave doctors picking up the pieces. Dr Ilona Duffy's comments come as Government confirmed that from 2025, pharmacists will be able to prescribe medications for 8 specified conditions.
The initiative is intended to reduce pressure on GP surgeries who are dealing with long waiting lists.
However, Dr Duffy believes it is a temporary solution to a deeper rooted issue, and the onus will still remain on GPs to provide patient care.
