The Government's climate action measures are not working.
This is according to Cavan Monaghan Sinn Fein TD, Deputy Matt Carthy who told Shannonside Northern Sound this week that just 45% of the measures contained within the Climate Action Plan have been implemented.
Deputy Carthy says that while the plan received cross party support, its aim was to reduce carbon emissions by 51% and establish net zero by 2050.
Last year, alone, he added, the target to reduce emissions was by 4.8% and during that time emissions rose by 4.7% .
He said that so far, not one of the Government parties have met "a single target" that they set.
"We absolutely are clear that action is needed to ensure the future of the planet is secured and that we have a just and fair transition to a cleaner, sustainable environment. Where we fundamentally disagree with the Government is their approach to achieving those targets. They have been punitive, they've been divisive, in many cases they have been counter productive, and as I say, crucially they haven't worked..."
