The Justice Minister says the Government will not use the Gardaí or the Defence Forces to police cross border travel.

There are concerns of a "reservoir" of Covid-19 in Northern Ireland, where the number of cases is considerably higher than in the south.

A number of hospitals in the north are over capacity and the entire hospital system there was operating at 101 per cent capacity yesterday.

The Executive yesterday agreed to extend restrictions in Northern Ireland after days of uncertainty.

Minister Helen McEntee says the Government has tried to liaise with the Stormont Executive to co-ordinate their approaches to the virus.

Louth TD Peter Fitzpatrick yesterday called for the army to be used to stop unnecessary cross border travel to prevent the spread of the virus.
