Government needs to 'wake up' to drugs epidemic-Cllr O'Reilly

Aontú Cllr Sarah O'Reilly for Co Cavan says the figures are 'shocking'.

Over 11,000 people have been arrested over drug offences across the local Garda Division over the past decade.

Figures released to Aontú by the Minister for Justice show that 11,467 people were arrested for drug offences throughout the district which covers Cavan, Monaghan and Louth, with the number of arrests peaking in 2021 and 2022.

Aontú Cllr Sarah O'Reilly for Co Cavan says the figures are 'shocking' and this should be a wake up call for the Government. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr O'Reilly says there is hardly a village in the region that is untouched by drugs.

She says the scourge of drugs in towns and villages are having a major negative impact and more needs to be done.The local councillor says further resources are needed.
