The government has turned its back on local authorities across the country.
That's according to local councillor, Shane P O'Reilly who says he has been highlighting that local authorities have been let down by the government for years. When it comes to housing, he said there hasn't been enough money given to build social homes across the country.
The local councillor said we now have a situation where local authorities like Cavan County Council are bidding against first time buyers in an effort to securing housing stock.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, the Co Cavan Councillor pointed to the fact that grants like Croí Cónaithe are wonderful opportunities for people to get onto the housing market. Cllr O' Reilly said the main issue and the unfortunate part to a scheme like the Croí Cónaithe grant is the criteria. The local councillor believes the government has forgotten local authorities like Cavan County Council.
