The Government is committed to resolving school transport issues.
That's according to Taoiseach Micheal Martin who was in Monaghan today to announce 200 new jobs in Carrickmacross.
The Taoiseach said more children - than ever before - were using the service this year.
He added how this was a consequence of the decision taken by Government to reduce transport costs for families.
His comments come in the aftermath of calls this morning by Cavan Monaghan TD, Niamh Smyth, for additional school transport provision in the region.
"We are in the middle of an energy crisis; we are in the middle of a cost of living crisis," the Taoiseach continued.
"If we look medium-term at climate change, the more and more people that are on buses the better, particularly school transport.
"We should be aiming for a society where there are no more long traffic queues outside schools that we have all witnessed.
"I accept there are real challenges with the implementation of this new system this September.
"But this is the direction public transport is going to be taking in terms of schools and education."
