A recent gorse fire in the Bragan Mountain will have a "long-term" environmental impact.
That's according to Shirley Clerkin, who is the Heritage Officer with Monaghan County Council.
The fire broke out at Barratitoppy Upper at around 4 pm on Saturday and fire crews were on the site until around 10 pm to deal with the incident.
Shirley says the fire is likely the result of human activity, either deliberately by starting the fire in an attempt to manage the site or "accidentally through careless actions like throwing a cigarette out of a car window".
