Monaghan Co Council has been asked to take "urgent action" as part of a concerted effort to minimise traffic disruption in the Derrygooney area of Latton. It's as a result of the collapse of a section of the local bridge which has only recently undergone reabilitation works.
The matter was raised at Monday’s meeting of the local authority by Fine Gael's Cllr Sean Gilliland who highlighted the adverse effect the incident is now having on the local community He highlighted how the road was closed for five months to accommodate works on the bridge, and it was the good will of local people that ensured the job was done.
Cllr Gilliland says that good will is now exhausted and the locals are frustrated and angry. "It was good enough to get the goodwill of the people in the area - the road users; the local farm community; and local businesses. The road closure was a lot to put up with because there was a lengthy detour in operation.
"And the community simply waited for the road to reopen. However, this time, I feel that goodwill has run out," he added.
