Cavan County Council is honouring Cavan golfing hero Leona Maguire with a civic reception at the county courthouse this evening.
The event is being held in recognition of what the local authority describes as "Leona's tremendous achievements on the global stage".
Friends and family have gathered here at the courthouse this evening to celebrate the fantastic achievements of local hero, Leona Maguire.
The two-time Olympian played a starring role in Europe's Solheim Cup victory in September 2022.
She recorded an historic victory at the Drive-On Championship in February 2022 and became the first Irish woman to win an LPGA tour event.
Leona went on to record a string of top-ten finishes this year, including a hard-fought second place finish in the CME Group Tour Championship last month.
Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council, Cllr John Paul Feeley has just told those gathered here this evening that Leona's record in recent years has marked her out as a leading Irish sportsperson.
He said that through her representation of Ireland on the international stage, Leona became a wonderful ambassador for her county and her country.
Cllr Feely highlighted his personal delight in getting the opportunity to recognise Leona's extraordinary achievements at this evening's very special event.
