The 7th annual 'Run To Remember' Gary Askin will take place in Emyvale this evening. The annual event was first set-up by Gary's friends and family in his memory following his death back in 2017. The annual fundraising event has supported over 20 charities and organisations since then.
The event will take place at at the Emyvale GAA grounds, Tully at 7pm. Speaking to Northern Sound, Gary's sister Laura said her family have been "blown away" by the support the event has received year after year. Laura has encouraged locals to attend tonight's event with this year's fundraising efforts going towards the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust and the Monaghan Cardiac First Responders Group.
"Each year the event has gone from strength, with over 1,000 walkers and runners attending," explained Laura. "It's a family-fun event and it also has the competitive element were we have a male and female winner at the end. The support from local people and the business community in Monaghan and beyond who come out each year to remember Gary and their own loved ones has been amazing and it's been a great comfort to us as a family and Gary's friends."
